Pelvic Floor Acupuncture in Calgary

Welcome to Your Pelvic Health Journey

If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re somewhere on your pelvic health journey. Pelvic health can feel complicated and multifaceted, and it often takes time to find the approaches that truly help.

If you’ve already found treatments that work for you and are curious what acupuncture can add, welcome. If you’re at the very beginning and don’t yet have answers, but you know things just don’t feel right, welcome. I meet people at every stage of this journey, and it’s my privilege to walk alongside you.

I love helping people understand what’s happening in their pelvic region and how it connects to their overall health. That education is part of your care here, so you feel less confused, more supported, and more in control of your healing.

Why People Seek Support

Many people arrive here after Googling things like:

  • “Why do I leak when I cough or sneeze?”

  • “Why do I always feel like I need to pee?”

  • “Why does sex hurt?”

  • “Why do I feel heaviness or pressure in my pelvis?”

  • “Is this normal after childbirth or menopause?”

  • “Why are my periods so painful?”

These are all common questions, and you are not alone in asking them. Pelvic issues can affect anyone, and they can show up as bladder changes, bowel concerns, sexual pain, hip or low back pain, period pain, or even a sense of disconnection from your body.

How Acupuncture Can Help

Acupuncture works by supporting blood flow, calming the nervous system, and helping muscles release tension or regain tone. It can ease pain, reduce urgency, improve circulation, and support recovery. Importantly, acupuncture is external-only, with all points placed on the surface of the body.

If there is a muscular imbalance, acupuncture can also help by releasing tight muscles, calming spasms, and restoring balance in the tissues. Many people find that acupuncture makes their pelvic physiotherapy or exercise program more effective by reducing pain and helping the body respond better to rehab.

You don’t have to choose between therapies. Acupuncture can be a powerful adjunct alongside pelvic health physiotherapy, chiropractic care, or exercise programs. Many people find that layering acupuncture into their treatment plan helps speed progress, reduce frustration, and give them a greater sense of whole-body balance.

The TCM Perspective

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers a unique lens. While Western medicine often focuses on local muscles, nerves, and structures, TCM sees the pelvis as part of a whole system.

In TCM, we don’t believe you are simply the sum of your parts. Instead, everything is connected through a network of meridians that carry Qi (energy), Blood, Yin, Yang, and body fluids. When these are out of balance, symptoms often appear in the pelvic region — not just the floor, but also the bladder, bowel, hips, and reproductive system.

Several important meridians and vessels pass through and influence the pelvic area:

  • Kidney meridian supports reproductive health, hormone balance, and deep reserves of energy.

  • Liver meridian keeps circulation smooth, easing pain and tension.

  • Bladder meridian links closely with the nervous system, calming urgency and stress.

  • Stomach meridian influences digestion and abdominal tension that can affect pelvic function.

  • Ren (Conception Vessel) plays a central role in gynecological and urological health.

  • Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel), often called the “Sea of Blood,” governs menstruation, fertility, and reproductive balance.

  • Dai Mai (Belt Vessel) encircles the waist, stabilizing the pelvic girdle and influencing symptoms like heaviness, prolapse, or weakness in the lower abdomen.

Because these pathways connect the pelvis to the rest of the body, your treatment may include points on your legs, abdomen, or even wrists that influence them. By working system-wide, acupuncture doesn’t just relieve symptoms — it helps restore balance at the root.

What to Expect

At your first appointment, we’ll take time to talk about your health history, current symptoms, and your goals. Even if you come in with a pelvic concern, we’ll discuss your whole system including digestion, sleep, stress, and energy because all of these influence pelvic health and the way the pelvic region functions.

Treatment is tailored to you. Needles are very fine and placed externally on areas such as the abdomen, hips, legs, arms, or ears. Sessions are relaxing, and many people leave feeling calmer, more centered, and more connected to their bodies.

An Integrative Approach

Pelvic health is rarely solved by one therapy alone. That’s why acupuncture fits so well as part of a broader care team. It doesn’t replace pelvic physiotherapy, exercise, or medical care, it complements them. Together, these approaches can help you recover more fully and prevent symptoms from returning.

Take Your Next Step

Whether you’re navigating urinary frequency, pelvic pain, postpartum recovery, period pain, or changes in menopause, you don’t have to do this alone. Acupuncture offers a safe, holistic, and integrative way to support your pelvic health.
